7 Lessons to Help You Make BIG CEO Moves
Hebrews 12:11 “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present but painful; nevertheless, afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

It never feels good when God has to tap you on your hand to tell you, “uh uh don’t do that like that”. No CEO relishes when learning a lesson the hard way. Old folks say, it’s good learning if you can learn the lesson from someone else and save yourself the pain of going through it yourself.

What is something that you have recently gone through in your business that you wish you knew what you know now to avoid going through some hassle?

Lesson # 1
Be clear on what you do, who you do it for and how you do it. The what and who are the easy part, it’s the how that can be hard sometimes. How you do it is your “it” factor. It’s that secret sauce. It’s what’s in you that you bring to the table that no one else can bring to the table. There is only one you. God created you to be you. Don’t dim your shine trying to fit in or mimic someone else. Spend some time getting to know what makes you different...that’s what makes you stand out in the crowd and what will bring you to your success.
Lesson # 2
Make sure you have a strong financial system and great money management skills. We all know people who do a whole lot with a little and others who waste more than the average person makes a week. Having more money does not mean anything when you don’t know how to manage it. When it goes out just as fast as it comes in, it doesn’t matter how much your business brings in. Do what you need to do to get someone you trust to handle your money. One of the most important decisions you make in life is who you allow to manage your money. Be diligent and ask plenty of questions. Ask questions before you hire someone and on a regular basis. Meet with your accountant and financial planner on a quarterly basis and have them show your where your money is and ask them why. Be responsible even when you outsource. And remember ORGANIZATION is key! Whether you do it yourself or you outsource, if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready. Organize your books and records on a monthly or quarterly basis.
Lesson # 3
Technology is only a band-aid – it is not a solution to bad business. New computers with shiny accessories and the latest technological tools don’t mean anything if you don’t have a strong business model and smart goals. Technology is a support tool not the foundation. Efficient systems are built on savvy business practices. Devices are not a permanent fix.
Technology is the shiny dress you put on top of the strong girdle...you know what I mean ladies. Don’t be caught in these entrepreneurial streets with your business hanging out.

Lesson # 4
“1” is the loneliest number. You cannot do it all by yourself. Even if you start out by yourself, at some point your business should grow to a point that you need some help. Don’t be that entrepreneur that refuses to ask for help and shares your load. All of the conglomerates that started in garages like Amazon and Apple wouldn’t be what they are today if the CEOs had not hired some help. Know that hiring is a process and it requires you to take certain steps to ensure you end up with the best talent. If you do not follow the right procedures, getting the wrong help could cost you lots of time and money.
Lesson # 5
Be rooted and grounded in a solid foundation. What is your infrastructure made of? Make sure your business has some roots to keep you grounded when the storms start rolling in. Systems and processes allow you to build roots. Just like a tree’s trunk gets thicker as it grows so it can support the branches and leaves, so should the foundation that you build your business on. You cannot scale without systemization. Once you have experienced some level of success, to go to the next level you need to create and implement systems that will allow you to sustain and withstand the storms.
Lesson # 6
Teamwork make the dream work. A team means that others share your vision and believe in your gift. Closely related to # 4, after you learn that you cannot do it alone it is time to build a team. It is important to build a team with individuals who not only are capable of the work but believe in your, what you do, how you do it and want to help you do it. Build a team with folks with a heart to serve. Don’t be afraid to delegate and to empower them so they can add to the vision and the goals.
Lesson # 7
There is no such thing as overnight successes! When you make money fast, if you are not prepared, the cost may be your business itself. Take the time to do the work, to lay the foundation to support your success. And just a word of caution about a couple things...don’t let comparison be the thief of your joy. Know your role and stay in your lane. Run your race and focus on your success. Don’t let the “testi-lying” of social media having you doubting your gift or questioning your pace. Have realistic expectations. Have realistic expectations. You cannot do everything at one time, and you cannot do everything you see others do. Celebrate your wins in between setting and achieving your goals. Learn to be content and not always seeking more. Satisfaction is a skill well practiced. And most importantly follow the process! Take the time to figure out what you do, who you do it for and how you do it and do it for a while. After you experience some growth, then create and implement your processes and systems. This systemization will help you to streamline your operations and maximize your profitability.
